True Friendship – Carrie Giffoni

We are fortunate to have another contribution from Carrie Giffoni who reminds us of the importance of real friends in our lives.

True friendship, unlike silver or gold

Cannot be bought, nor can it be sold.

It can only be given, then joyfully received

With deep love and compassion true friendship’s achieved.

Good Friends are rare, acquaintances many.

In our lifetime we’re lucky if we “truly” have any.

Once found they’re a treasure felt deep in your heart.

And there they remain, whether near or apart.

Through accomplishment, failure, laughter and tears

True friendship grows stronger over the years.

A “true” friend knows every side of you,

Yet they love you regardless of what you may do.

A friend is a mirror you see yourself through.

The love they extend is reflected in you.

Your dreams and your secrets are poured out to them.

All secrets are safe in the heart of a friend.

In my life I feel blessed by good friends and more,

A family who loves me and blessings galore,

Yet life would not have been nearly as rich today

If your loving, “true” friendship had not come my way!

  1. Ursula,
Thank you so much for the appreciation of what I have written in “True Friendship.”
This poem was written to a friend if mine that TRULY is the definition of what a true friend is and should always be!
My heart is filled to over flowing with the knowledge that you have amazing friends that are there for you when you most need them.
I would be honored to meet you whenever if wherever! You are one of the strongest and most courageous women I have read about to write you life story in light
of the trials you have lived through.
I just want to give you the biggest hug…that’s all I can say. You are the
so admirable in every way and I salute you! God Bless You with the best that life can bring to you.

  2. Dear Carrie – I just finished reading your posting for the third time, I have now copied it, as I want to keep it – the words are so true, there is nothing better than a true friend – all those years I worked so hard, I tried to develop “true” friendships – how lucky I am, now when my health is leaving something to be desired, some of them are coming back to help me, I have had calls from people that I had forgotten I knew – yes, you are correct, there is only one thing that is more precious than a true friend, and that is health, but let me tell you, the true friends are really showing up now that I need them – they are so special, and few and far in between.
Thank you so much for this posting, I wish I could meet you, as you sound like a true friend. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. Sent with love, Ursula
